poem by harlyn cousins

The virus that changed the world

One day a nasty germ begun. It made people sick one by one.
It spread everywhere on planes and boats and streets.
It kept people in their homes so we could'nt meet.

We did school online which sometimes was quite hard
we wer'nt allowed anywhere except our own yard.

I think the world has stop spinning so fast and that's why the days are long
I miss playing league because it made me strong. I miss hunting and fishing I miss my friends too
some days it's hard to know what i should even do.
I think the world has changed its quite and clean and nice but I'm also very sad some people even died.
We learnt to do so many new things we learnt how to play, but still I can not wait until this virus goes away!

By Harlyn (and mum who helped with the rhyming)

  1. I love this poem, Harlyn. It is sad that so many people got sick and some died, that's why it was so important that we all stay home. I am glad you are able to appreciate the good things about being stuck at home but you also appreciate the things you are missing. I can't wait to see you all at school. It is very quiet here; Ange, Mr Kruger and I don't make nearly as much noise as you kids do.
Well done and see you soon.

  3. Hi Harlyn,
I am Phoebe from Matawai School,
In your poem you put a lower case i instead of a capital I. I like how you based the poem about lock down.Did you do this in lock down?
